The Immanuel Lutheran Church in Eagle is hosting a Movie Night with dinner on Saturday, September 8th beginning at 6:00 p.m. They will have (root) Beer, Brats (and hot dogs, salads, chips, etc.), and Bride (watch the movie, The Princess Bride). Eagle Vision Meeting

2nd Thursday of Every Month

7 pm Patina Joe

Anyone 60 and over are invited to lunch on Tuesdays. We are meeting at the Lutheran Church until a new or remodeled community center is built. The cost is $3.50. We need to know how many are coming by the day before at 9 am. She has a sign up sheet at lunch for each week so you don't have to call every week. There's a small group who stay after to play cards. People younger than 60 can also eat with them, they pay a little more. Call with questions 402-214-8227.

Debt is dumb! There Is A Better Way!

This is tough to share but I'm going to be really vulnerable in hopes that our story and these resources can help someone.

Last week I cried happy tears. If you would have told me at the beginning of the year that we would have been able to cash flow getting all 40+ trees removed from our backyard this summer I never would have believed you!
Let me take you back about 9 months ago. At the beginning of the year we were struggling so bad financially and something had to give. We were trying to decide if bankruptcy was the best option or if there was any conceivable way to get out of the financial mess that we were in. Even though we make good money the medical bills and years of bad money choices seemed like something we would never be able to dig our way out of. Maybe you can relate?

We sat down with Doug Fitzgerald's OneShot. OneLife. book and created our first priority to be debt free. I knew that all these sleepless nights and anxiety that I had around money had to stop. I knew that my boys needed to see from our example that life didn't need to be this way.

Once we made the decision, we needed to find a system that would work for us. I had known about Dave Ramsey for probably the last 10 years and had even taken the FPU class a few times. It didn't stick until we made the decision, determined our why, and got some accountability (aside from each other). Those were all things that Doug's book encouraged us to do. Then using Dave Ramsey's system we started budgeting, doing pro rata debt payments, and working extra wherever we could. To make a long story short we have definitely had our ups and downs in the last nine months (and Murphy as come to visit us more then we would like) but we have been able to:

Replace appliances
Cash flow a "new to me" car when my Honda died
Cash flow getting 40+ trees removed from our property
Rebuild our emergency fund at least 3 times
Pay off $21,825.69 worth of debt so far

Do we have a long ways to go to get debt free? Sure. But I don't doubt we will get there. I don't doubt that our boys will grow up knowing that they don't have to be slave to a lender. And that is why the happy tears wouldn't stop falling.

I don't say any of this to brag. I say this to let you know that there is hope! I share this to say that there is a better way. The first step is determining what your priorities are.
