Eagle Tobacco-Free Playgrounds and Parks
Eagle, NE – Eagle is the seventh Cass County Community to implement a comprehensive tobacco-free playground and park outdoor recreation policy.
The Village of Eagle approved resolution 2019-03 that all recreational areas, parks, playground, pavilions, ball fields and pool in the Village of Eagle shall be designated as “tobacco-free” and tobacco use shall be prohibited.
“The Village of Eagle would like to thank our partners at Tobacco Education and Advocacy of the Midlands for assisting us in making our community facilities tobacco-free and more enjoyable for our residents and visitors,” said Travis Moore, Village of Eagle Board of Trustees Chair. “Eagle is committed to providing healthy and clean areas for our citizens, visitors and especially our youth, to enjoy fresh clean outdoor fun.”
The primary purpose of the resolution is to protect children from the potential dangers of secondhand smoke while at play in parks. The policy provides adults the opportunity to be non-tobacco using role models to youth on ball fields and playgrounds.Tobacco-free parks benefit the environment and it is through the reduction of cigarette butt litter that the health of local streams, lakes and rivers will continue to improve.
The policy prohibits use of all forms of tobacco products, i.e., cigarettes, cigars, e-cigarettes, pipes, and chew/dip. Tobacco-free parks will be clearly identified with signage.
For more information about Tobacco Free Parks, call T.E.A.M. at 402.593.3022 or email info@TEAMTobaccoFree.org.
