Parents and Teachers of Eagle
The newly developed PTE held their second meeting last week. The new bylaws state:
ARTICLE III – MEMBERSHIP
Any parent or guardian or other person standing “in loco parentis” of a child attending Eagle Elementary and all staff members or retired staff members of Eagle Elementary, are eligible for membership.
A voting member shall be any eligible person who has provided the Board of Directors their name, address, phone number and email (if any) at least ten days prior to any vote. Membership shall remain in force so long as the member remains eligible and has not provided notice of resignation to the Board of Directors.
All shall have voting privileges. There shall be no membership dues assessed.
Members are not personally liable for the acts, debts, liabilities or obligations of the corporation.

After voting on bylaws a discussion was held regarding teacher wish lists. This discussion was held over from the last PTE meeting. Sara Martin was able to point out that she had done some research since the last meeting. Parents seemed a little divided on why or why not we should pay for the guided reading books part of the wish lists. Even though Dr. Bill Heimann promised that these books were not or would not be part of curriculum there were questions on whether the district should be paying for this. Most of the parents agreed that they want the books regardless of if the district should be paying for them. A few parents spoke up to say "if we have the money, why wouldn't we just pay for it?” It was to this that Sara was able to go more into her research. She had found out that there a few grants that we could be applying for to pay for the books. It made much more sense to apply for grants to pay for the books and use PTE money to purchase things the district can't or won't pay for. The majority of the PTE was excited about this new possibility.
Dr. Bill Heimann made a few comments that concerned a large portion of the PTE. The PTE works hard year after year to raise money that goes back into our school and to our children. It was stated that if the PTE didn't pass certain items on the wish lists some of their fundraising might be questioned and where the fundraising events are held (usually at the school) would have to be looked at. At a prior meeting school board members that were present were in full support of the PTE holding their meetings and fundraisers at the school. If you have any questions or concerns about this you are always welcome to contact the principal at Eagle Elementary, Dottie Heusman or the Superintendent, Dr. Bill Heimann.

Many of you probably already know Natasha and James Dobbins. They have two beautiful children Lily and Jimmy "Buddy". Buddy was born with Down Syndrome as well as other complications. He had open heart surgery on August 3, 2009. He had complications from a nicked lymph node...which caused what they called a chylothorax with plural infusion. Which means they nicked the lymph node and that caused the lining of his right lung to fill with fluid and lipils, which collapsed his right lung. They have dealt with apnea monitors, oximeters, oxygen, prescription formula, feeding tube and all kinds of stuff.
Natasha Dobbins is setting up a team for the Step Up for Down Syndrome. Team Bubba! Let's get Eagle together for this little boy!
