Communication, Rules, Responsibility, Common Sense and Common Courtesy
What do these things have in common? Where do they come into play? How do we teach our children about them? I believe they are words that are lacking in our society today. Even in our own village.
We can teach our children about them by example. We need to help each other in these areas. I have a couple of areas I have in mind while writing this.
The first area is the parking situation at the Elementary School. It is still horrible. I pulled up and sat in line this week only to watch car after car pull in front of the line because they didn't want to wait. Granted the first van in line took an incredible amount of time letting out just one child. Please, if you are not ready to let your child out of the vehicle pull into a parking space and wait until you are ready. You cause as many problems by holding up the line as the people who go around the line because they don't want to wait. I saw a van hold up people driving through so that they could back into one of the stalls on the curve. I also saw a car double park in the curve to let a child out between cars. These things cannot keep happening. Please, talk to your friends, family members, spouses and neighbors before a child gets hurt.
The second area is our school district. I still recommend contacting your teacher first, then the principal after that the super intendant. It has been suggested and recommended that a survey go out to all parents about how they feel things are going at the Elementary school and the district as a whole. It has also been recommended that we have a parent group meet with administration and school board members in an open forum meeting where questions can be asked and answers given.
