With the holiday plays now over and the classroom parties ready to begin it's hard to think about the issues and problems that are still at hand.
The drop off in the loop before school is still a big problem. Parents continue to drive around the parents waiting and pull in the front of the line. This causes the entire line to wait now for the person who just pulled in front of everyone. Part of the problem is the parents who take forever dropping their kids off and hold everyone else up. One parent actually got out of her car and walked her child to the school! Seriously, if you are going to take longer than usual park in a stall. Have some consideration for others. I am embarrassed to say that I have now seen some of my friends pulling around cars and right up to the front of the line. I won't name names (yet)! I talked to a mom who did this exact thing this morning. She told me she always does this. I said it would be helpful if people would wait in line and move up when it's their turn. The line should keep moving. She told me it doesn't work that way. So what do we do? Teach our kids that it's ok not to follow the rules if we are in a hurry? You don't have to wait in line if it's taking too long? Really? Sorry, this mom is going to wait in line. I will teach my children to wait line. I will also try and make a lesson out of the parents who seem to think their time is so much more valuable than everyone else’s. Rules are in place for a reason. If you don't like them, do what you can to change them.
A survey went out to the teachers in the district. While I am a little confused at the results I am anxiously awaiting the survey that will be given to the parents at the next parent/teacher conferences. I hope that those results will be given numbers instead of averages to really show how many people picked that response. By giving an average to a survey you are taking away some of the information people want to know. Just a thought.
