Back to school

School is right around the corner. District 145 Middle School and High School students will start school on Wednesday, August 14. Eagle Elementary School students will start on Thursday, August 15. School hours at Eagle are 8:10-3:05. If you are new to the community and have a student that will be attending school next year, please stop by the school office sometime between now and early August to complete the registration process.

Open House will be held from 6:00-7:00 on Wednesday, August 14. On this day teachers will be in classrooms and families will be able to come and look around the room and meet the teacher. This is also a good time to drop off school supplies, pick up paperwork that needs to be completed and put money in your lunch accounts.

Eagle Elementary will be welcoming three new teachers to the building. Mrs. Marci Sorenson will be teaching 3rd grade. Marci replaces Mrs. Stepp who accepted a teaching position at O'Neill Public Schools. Ms. Rachel Prieksat is our new media specialist. She replaces Mrs. Hestermann who accepted the same position at Syracuse Public Schools. Mrs. Ashley Hellige will be teaching 5th grade and replacing Ms. Foreman. Ms. Foreman has moved to a resource position in the building. We welcome these teachers to the building.

See you soon. Mrs. Heusman, Eagle Elementary Principal

Cass County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program

Welcomes Two New Volunteers

The Cass County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program is proud to announce that two new CASA Volunteers were sworn-in by Judge John Steinheider on July 10, 2013. A brief reception was held following the ceremony to wish the new CASA Volunteers well in their advocacy for Cass County’s abused and neglected children. The new CASA volunteers are Lee Jameson and Mellisa Jewell.

There are a total of 17 Cass County children who are under the jurisdiction of the court because of abuse and/or neglect. Children range in age from two to 19 years old. Currently, we have ten active CASA volunteers advocating for these children.

CASA volunteers usually work with one case at a time. They get to know the children and write reports for the Judge, making recommendations about what would be best for the child. They become a stable, reliable presence in the child’s life during a very difficult time, and advocate for the child to have a safe and permanent home as quickly as possible.

The Cass County CASA program was started in 2005. CASA volunteers are ordinary people doing an extraordinary thing by having an impact on the lives of abused and neglected children. Most volunteers donate about 2 hours per week (or 8 hours a month) and all training is provided. A portion of the pre-service training expenses were paid for by a grant from the Nebraska CASA Association. If you are interested or want more information, please call or e-mail Angie Neumiller, Program Director at 402-296-9520 or director@casscasa.org.
