Always a Bridesmaid

Mahoney State Park Opens 2014 With 'Always A Bridesmaid'

Mahoney State Park announces that KBC Productions will open the comedy, “Always a Bridesmaid,” at the Kountze Memorial Theater on Saturday, January 18. The story is written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten. Four girlfriends have sworn to keep the promise they made on the night of their Senior Prom: to be in each other's weddings…no matter what. More than thirty years later, these Southern friends-for-life are determined to honor that vow.
The classmates include Brandy Palatas and Kathleen Smith (Papillion), Sharon Kryger (La Vista) and Melinda Mead (Plattsmouth). Brenda Jones (Louisville) and Samantha Colbert (Lincoln) complete the rest of the cast. The play is produced by KBC Productions and directed by Kevin Colbert. Performance dates are January 18, 19, 24, 25, 26, 31 and February 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, and 16. Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30PM and Sundays are at 2:00PM. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under. For reservations contact Mahoney State Park at 402-944-2523 ext. 7122.

The Old Avoca Schoolhouse in Avoca, Nebraska will be hosting a special "Schoolhouse Celtic Fiddling Camp", for fiddlers, violists, mandolinists, guitarists, harpists, and ukulele players. Music from Ireland, Scotland, and Wales will be featured. The sessions will be led by championship fiddler and author, Deborah Greenblatt.

The camp will be on Wednesday, March 12 - Friday, March 14, from 9 AM to 1 PM. You can sign up for 1 day, or 2 days, or all 3 days.

On Wednesday, participants will be mostly reading tunes, using sheet music in standard notation. We'll be learning melodies, harmonies, and chords. You will be improving your sight reading, and experiencing fiddling fun.

On Thursday, we will be mostly playing tunes by ear, so feel free to bring your recording gadgets. Sheet music versions of the tunes will be provided for you by the end of the day, just in case your ears need the help.

On Friday, we will be mostly jamming, modulating, singing, dancing, experimenting, sharing, and playing fiddle related instruments.

One day: $60.00
Two days: $110.00 ($55 per day)
Three days: $150.00 fee for 3 days. ($50 per day)

Cass County CASA Volunteers Needed!

We are currently recruiting CASA Volunteers for the upcoming training session scheduled in April 2014. We only train two classes a year, call and reserve your spot today?

What does a Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteer do? Each CASA volunteer is screened, trained and completes 30 hours of pre-service training. Once trained, CASA volunteers are assigned under the Juvenile Court jurisdiction to speak on behalf of a child to ensure the needs and interests of abused and neglected children are being met.

Who are CASA volunteers? Our active volunteers are individuals from our community who work part-time, full-time or are retired. Volunteers commit to one year with a child, but seldom leave a case until it has been terminated.

If I can't be a CASA volunteer, how can I help? In addition to training new CASA volunteers, we are also in need of administrative services support such as: filing, data entry and making copies.

Your help directly benefits the Cass County CASA Program. A donor-supported volunteer organization whose mission is to offer
court-appointed volunteer advocacy to children that are abused, neglected and often find themselves lost in the court system. Through Cass County
CASA, these children are placed with advocates that speak on their behalf and know them well enough to make informed recommendations to the judge.

Please call Angie Neumiller, Executive Director at (402) 296-9620 or email director@casscasa.org and become a CASA volunteer today.
