United Methodist Church Coat Drive
Right after the new year our church decided to start collecting coats and blankets for area shelters. It was turning out to be a very cold winter and we wanted to do our part. We put up flyers in the church, sent out e-mails and put a box in the city offices. The response was incredible.
Within two weeks we had collected over 200 pounds of coats and blankets. In the next two weeks we collected over 200 pounds more and in the past few weeks we have added at least 300 pounds more. I do not know how many total coats and blankets were collected but it was enough to stuff an SUV to the brim 3 times! And we still have more coming in! Donated items were taken to the Open Door Mission, Lydia House in Omaha and Under His Wings Thrift Store in Plattsmouth.
Thank you very much to all who donated and continue to donate.
This will be an annual event at out church.

The Old Avoca Schoolhouse in Avoca, Nebraska will be hosting a special "Schoolhouse Celtic Fiddling Camp", for fiddlers, violists, mandolinists, guitarists, harpists, and ukulele players. Music from Ireland, Scotland, and Wales will be featured. The sessions will be led by championship fiddler and author, Deborah Greenblatt.
The camp will be on Wednesday, March 12 - Friday, March 14, from 9 AM to 1 PM. You can sign up for 1 day, or 2 days, or all 3 days.
On Wednesday, participants will be mostly reading tunes, using sheet music in standard notation. We'll be learning melodies, harmonies, and chords. You will be improving your sight reading, and experiencing fiddling fun.
On Thursday, we will be mostly playing tunes by ear, so feel free to bring your recording gadgets. Sheet music versions of the tunes will be provided for you by the end of the day, just in case your ears need the help.
On Friday, we will be mostly jamming, modulating, singing, dancing, experimenting, sharing, and playing fiddle related instruments.
One day: $60.00
Two days: $110.00 ($55 per day)
Three days: $150.00 fee for 3 days. ($50 per day)

Cass County CASA Volunteers Needed!
We are currently recruiting CASA Volunteers for the upcoming training session scheduled in April 2014. We only train two classes a year, call and reserve your spot today?
What does a Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteer do? Each CASA volunteer is screened, trained and completes 30 hours of pre-service training. Once trained, CASA volunteers are assigned under the Juvenile Court jurisdiction to speak on behalf of a child to ensure the needs and interests of abused and neglected children are being met.
Who are CASA volunteers? Our active volunteers are individuals from our community who work part-time, full-time or are retired. Volunteers commit to one year with a child, but seldom leave a case until it has been terminated.
If I can't be a CASA volunteer, how can I help? In addition to training new CASA volunteers, we are also in need of administrative services support such as: filing, data entry and making copies.
Your help directly benefits the Cass County CASA Program. A donor-supported volunteer organization whose mission is to offer court-appointed volunteer advocacy to children that are abused, neglected and often find themselves lost in the court system. Through Cass County
CASA, these children are placed with advocates that speak on their behalf and know them well enough to make informed recommendations to the judge.
Please call Angie Neumiller, Executive Director at (402) 296-9620 or email director@casscasa.org and become a CASA volunteer today.
