Did You Know?

Did you know Plattsmouth Community School District provides Adult Education? In fact, this is the 40th year of the program. PCSD sponsors Adult Basic Education, English as a Second Language classes, College and Career Readiness, as well as GED preparation classes, and GED examination.

Classes are given from 9:30 a.m. to noon and from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at the PACE Center, 15508 2nd Street (across from the High School.) Participants are free to attend as many sessions as they want. Students receive individualized study plans to meet their goals. Each session includes full-class instruction, independent study time, and one-to-one work time with the teacher.
The GED program includes language arts, math, science and social studies. Students who just want to improve their math, writing or computer skills can satisfy those goals also. Teachers are prepared to help new English-speakers develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Additionally, the program offers a distance learning opportunity. Students may study on computer at home to speed their progress. Ask about i-Pathways.

Adults of any age are eligible to take classes at the PACE Center. Eighteen-year-olds may take the GED test when the submit proof of age and an official letter of withdrawal from the last school attended. Students who are 16 or 17 years old must submit the properly signed forms that show allowed withdrawal from the last school attended.

Classes are free. There are modest fees for taking the GED examinations.

Do you know someone who could benefit from the program? For information, please call Tallie VanWesten, program director at 402-296-3174 Ext. 2315, or 402-296-7116 during class hours. Students may begin just by coming to class a few minutes early. Everyone is welcome.

Greenblatt & Seay proudly announce the 20th ANNUAL SCHOOLHOUSE FIDDLING BEE. This historical, hysterical event will take place on Sunday, October 9, at 2:30 PM, downstairs in the Old Avoca, Nebraska Schoolhouse. In the Open Division, fiddlers will play a hoedown, a waltz, and a tune of choice. There will also be other divisions of competition available for the adventurous fiddlers, including a Singing Fiddler's Contest, a Twin Fiddler's Contest, a Fee-Fi-Faux Fiddler's Contest (fiddle tunes played on any instrument other than a fiddle), and a Hocus-Pocus Contest (cross-tuning, sound effects, dancing, etc.), which will give fiddlers an opportunity to play tunes that are usually not allowed in any other contest.

For more information, and to register online CLICK HERE.

Admission is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for students, and $1.00 for children. Fiddlers and their back-ups are admitted for free. The contest will be followed by a light snack and an acoustic jam session with Greenblatt & Seay.
